CRM 2011 Data Import - Using out of the box template
Data import has changed in CRM 2011 and the steps required to import data are liste below.
STEP 1
Select an entity and click on the "Download Template for Import" icon. This example uses the Leads entity.
STEP 2
Save the XML template file to a place you will remember, you will need this template to import your data.
STEP 3
Open Save the XML template you downloaded in "STEP 2" and copy the fields you want imported from your source file. Your source file can be any Excel, CSV or Text file you have.
STEP 4
When you are finished moving the data to the corresponding fields save the file.
STEP 5
Click on the "Import Data" icon.
STEP 6
You will then be prompted to specify the location of the XML template file you saved on "STEP 4".
STEP 7
Review the mapping summary and ensure the information is correct, press next when ready.
STEP 8
Review Settings and press submit to proceed.
STEP 9
Click on Finish when you are ready to proceed.
STEP 10
Go to MyWork->Imports and check the status of the import job. The illustration below shows the status reason as "Transforming".
STEP 11
When the job is complete the status reason will show "Completed".
